I usually hook in my home alone. Our local group stopped meeting when COVID restrictions made us all stay home. The closest rug hooking group is 45 minutes away. The closest guild is about an hour and 15 minutes. I miss hooking with like minded friends. Every once in awhile I meet with Lauren (Rugs & Pugs) at The Wool Yankers, a rug hooking shop in Wellington, Ohio But I want more.
I decided that if I wanted to have a local rug hooking group it'd be up to me to start one. I placed a post on a rug hooking Facebook group. I had interest from about a dozen people. One of the women said she already had a name for us, The Hook & Thread Society. Our first meeting was yesterday. There were 8 in attendance. I was thrilled. Four of the women live about a half hour away, two were from Ashtabula about 90 minutes away, and the last one was from New York. She'd been in Ohio for the Sauder show and read about us. Me? I live a mile away. 😊
We plan to meet on the first and third Sundays of the month. Did I say I am excited? I'm hoping we all have a chance to show off our works, but to also share other techniques or crafts that we do.
I took the afternoon to work on binding my Birds in the Garden rug. I finished binding this morning. When I start a new rug I will be applying a wool binding to the linen before I even start hooking. I saw this done while in Shipshewana and then again yesterday. It looks easier than the method I currently use. I still have three more rugs to bind. Slowly but surely I will get them done.
My boys.
And oh my, dad cut their hair. This made me sad. They are so much cuter with longer hair. I love them so.
So happy for your wonderful turnout! One day I will make it down.
ReplyDeleteYour Birds in a garden is absolutely wonderful!
Let me know how sewing the binding ahead of time works out.
Great pic of your boys!
Mac reminds me so much of my grandson. His mom always buzzed his head and I hated it, but I had no say in the matter so I just bit my tongue 😢

Holy hair cut he sure did! It will grow out though.
ReplyDeleteOh lucky you I am over an hour away from my guild I do not go. I do not have a local group either. Did you know these ladies beforehand? Where are you meeting? You have inspired me to give it a try. I did take classes last year about 40 minutes from my house.
Cathy
He sure did give them a hair cut. Oh my. Glad you decided to create a group for yourself and you will have a grand old time with it. Janice
