Hooking with Sally

Sally Kallin from Pine Island Primitives came to Millersburg, Ohio to teach a class. I love her fragmented rugs, but that's a whole other class. From my understanding, it's a secret technique that only Sally teaches and once you take the classs you agree you will not share the technique.

I had decided to hook one of her patterns, but had trouble deciding on which one. I settled on Sweet Home because I loved the border, but I'm not in love with the words sweet home. I asked Sally to change the words to an American flag. Then hooked it with very dull colors. My favs.browns, tans, blues, reds, and pink. I love how it turned out.

A big shout out to Lauren, of Rugs and Pugs blog. She got me in to the Millersburg group. I had recently moved back to Ohio and had fallen out of the Ohio hooking world. Due to covid there was an empty spot in the group. So now, once a year I get to go to this great hooking event in Amish country. Thanks so much my friend.
This week is the big show at Sauder Village. I was supposed to go with a friend, but she had to cancel due to illness. I just did not feel like driving the 2 1/2 hour drive each way. I'll look at it this way, look how much money I saved by not going. I don't need any more wool, nor do I need more patterns, but there's always goodies that I want to come home with me. My craft room is a total nightmare. Since I used to spend half my year in Ohio and the other half in Georgia, I had craft supplies at both houses. Then I sold my Georgia house. I had as much quilting, hooking, and stitching stuff in Georgia as I did in Ohio. And now I'm on overload with "stuff". At least now I'm back to using some of it.

Have a wonderful week.

Hello Again

This rug was so, so fun to hook. I started it at a gathering of friends. See the flower in the left lower corner? It's a solid brown color. All the flowers were going to be this. I just knew that I had lots of it at home. But upon arriving home, I found I had no more of it. None. Zilch. Zero. So I worked in other colors and shades of browns. I really like it. Plus, I figure when rugs were made long ago they worked with what they had. so that's just what I havevdone.

Now to on why I had disappeared. The past 18 months have been rough ones. I've had so many health related problems. I have esophageal achalasia, and had surgery to help with the regurgitation, last June. It helped, but I still have trouble swallowing and still throw up some. A week post op I felt this small ooze sensation in my lower back. It didn't hurt then, but the next day I was in pain, and it got worse, and worse. I had a third back surgery in October. During the interval between the two surgeries I had bilateral cataract surgery. I had rapidly advancing cataracts, developed in less than a year. I thought I was going blind because it happened so fast. I was recovering quite nicely, and then, a severe cause of sciatica. Oh my, that was worse than the back surgery. I'm finally on the mend.

And being on the mend I have started sewing and hooking again. I went to a hook-in in February. Seven of us rented a house for the weekend and hooked, and ate, and did some shopping. I started this flower and pony rug. And then finished hooking it within a month.

I will admit that I didn't get it bound until last week. This was such a fun rug to hook.

Hopefully I'm back, with regularity.
