A Better Look at Nutty

A couple of days ago I posted some of my autumnal hooked rugs. I think fall colors are my favorite colors to work with, both in rug hooking and quilting.

Here's a closer look at "Nutty", a pattern by A Cactus Needle, sold to me by Nola Hooks during one of my visits to the Sauder Village Rug Hooking Show. This is a great event held every August. Hundreds of rugs, and numerous vendors. It takes  me about 2 1/2 hours to get there, but we'll worth it.

Here's the show.

This is the tail. I used a variegated fluffy yarn. It was silky and a bit difficult to work with, but well worth the extra effort. I don't think I could have achieved this look with wool, even a spot dyed wool.

See those round circles? Sally Kallin has them. I trimmed off one side so they weren't too much taller than the loop height. I then hand sewed them into place and hooked around them.

I made several of these acorn coasters. Each one is a little different. In this one I hooked the stem, in another a rolled up a piece of matching wool and sewed it on. After years of use, i prefer the hooked stem. I just like how it looks better  than the other one.

This is the back. I just sewed on a piece of wool. This is a coat weight wool, not good for hooking, but very good for backing .

Til next time, have a blessed day, Sue
